The CARP team at DTU Health Tech recently hosted a successful workshop titled “Building Mobile and Wearable Health Technology in Flutter” at DTU Skylab, bringing together a vibrant community of researchers, developers, students, and innovators from the health technology space.
Organized by the CARP team Jakob E. Bardram, and the CARP team and supported by our partners Digital Health Copenhagen Meetup, and Paula Petcu, the event showcased how mobile sensing, and wearable technologies can be seamlessly integrated into digital health solutions using Flutter and the open-source Copenhagen Research Platform (CARP).
Demonstrating the CARP Research Platform
Throughout the event, the team presented the extensive suite of tools developed within the CACHET – Copenhagen Center for Health Technology (CARP) Research Platform. The platform enables researchers and developers to efficiently build mobile health applications for clinical studies, behavioral monitoring, and real-world data collection.
Key components presented included:
- Flutter plugins, including the open-source health plugin for integrating health data
- Sensor data collection modules for capturing data from wearables and mobile sensors (e.g., GPS, ECG)
- Survey tools for collecting self-reported user data
- Cognitive assessment packages built on Flutter
- Standard mobile data collection app for rapid study deployment
- Cloud-based backend services for secure study management and data storage
Engaging Discussions and Hands-On Demos
The workshop combined live demos with interactive presentations, giving participants hands-on experience with CARP tools. Former students presented the design of the Neuropathy Tracker and explained how it was implemented using the Research Package. The industry partner Cortrium demonstrated how CARP can be integrated to the wearable ECG sensor and used in cardiovascular studies. Students, researchers, and industry professionals discussed challenges and opportunities in mobile health, data collection, and wearable tech, fostering knowledge sharing and collaboration.
